『ロンリー・ユニバース (LONELY UNIVERSE)』 by ロンリー・ユニバース (LONELY UNIVERSE : MICHAEL WHITE & MICHEL LAMBERT WITH DAVID TORN & MICK KARN)
作品上の表記に着目すれば、本作は構成メンバーである4名、均等の作品ではない。各2名ずつのユニットの共演作である。すなわち、マイケル・ホワイト (Michael White : Tp.) とミッシェル・ランバート (Michel Lambert/a> : Dr.) のユニットとデヴィッド・トーン (David Torn : Gu.) とミック・カーン (Mick Karn : B) のユニットである。ロンリー・ユニバース (Lonely Universe) と謂う集団の作品は、本作の他にもう1作品『ア・ラ・プラージュ / À La Plage』 [1993年発表] があり、そのメンバーが前2者だけである事を考えれば、それ程に的外れな指摘でもないだろう。
だけれども、実際に作品に向かうと、その2対2とは異なる印象を抱かざるを得ない。

『ジョージ・ハリスン帝国 (EXTRA TEXURE (Read All About It))』 by ジョージ・ハリスン (George Harrison)
意識的に音楽を聴き始めたのは、ザ・ビートルズ (The Beatles) からであって、彼等の作品を幾つか買い漁り、そして聴き込んでいくうちに、そのバンドを構成する個々のメンバーへと関心が移っていく。
何故ならば、どんなに人気があり、そして、どんなにその作品が優れたモノであっても、彼等はかつて存在した、過去のバンドなのだ。そして、そのバンドから巣立っていった4人はそれぞれ、現役のミュージシャンとして活動を続けている。ぼくの興味がかつての彼等から今の彼等へと移るのも、自明なモノとして認めてくれるだろう。しかも、その当時、4人はそれぞれに自身名義の作品を発表しているさなかである。
1974年から1976年の事、ぼくは地方在住の中学生で、パンク (Punk) はまだ始まってもいない。

"GLAD ALL OVER AGAIN" by THE DAVE CLARK FIVE
店頭に並んでいるこの作品をみつけて、おおそういえば、と思ったのだ。
名前だけは知っている。
確か、ザ・ビートルズ (The Beatles) に続いて陸続としてデヴューしたバンドのひとつで、当時のザ・ビートルズ (The Beatles) と彼等の模倣者達のヘア・スタイル、マッシュルーム・カット (Bowl Cut) がその音楽以上に、良識ある世間から顰蹙をかっていたなかで、デイヴ・クラーク・ファイヴ (The Dave Clark Five) は短髪で清潔感を売り物にしていてそれ故に、彼等のファンではなくてその親達が好意的に認めたバンドで云々と紹介されていたと記憶している [違っていたら御免]。
その朧げな記憶が正しければ、ザ・ビートルズ (The Beatles) 以上に髪がながく、彼等の様な揃いのスーツも着用しなかった当時のザ・ローリング・ストーンズ (The Rolling Stones) が不良性を売りにしていた場所の対極に、デイヴ・クラーク・ファイヴ (The Dave Clark Five) は位置を占めていた事になる。
